You have reached the home page of Øystein Sakala LaBianca (Ph.D. Brandeis University 1987), Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Associate Director of the Institute of Archaeology at Andrews University. Here you will find an overview of my career as an anthropologist, which includes contributions to the fields of zooarchaeology, food systems research, ethnoarchaeology, ethnohistory, environmental archaeology, civilization research, global history, and community and international development. I also include some highlights from my career as a teacher and mentor and brief descriptions of selected initiatives in curriculum and community development with which I have had the privilege of being involved.
